Elected Offices
State
Governor- Chief Executive of the state who sees that all laws are faithfully executed
Secretary of State- Keeper of all the seals of the state, keep a journal of executive proceedings, arrange and preserve all records and papers belonging to the executive department
Treasurer- primarily the custodian of all State moneys, bonds, and other securities
Auditor- audits and examines all requisitions for payments against the State of West Virginia, honors requisitions for payment of claims when proper and forwards State warrants to Treasurer
Supreme Court Justices
Commissioner of Agricuilture- Decises ways and means of promoting agriculture in West Virginia, promotes and encourages the organization of agriculture societies, conducts cooperative work with the U.S. Department of Agriculture
State Senate
House of Delegates
County
Sheriff-Acts as the treasurer of the County and collects all taxes, she serves and executes all returns, notices, and processes issued by the County and which have to be served in his county
Circuit Clerk- Acts as Clerk for the Circuit Court, keeps all records for the respective courts of which she is clerk.
Procesecuting Attorney- Duties as county law enforcement officer, duties in civil cases and matters
Assessor- four year term, duty to make a list of all property in the county, both as to real estate and personal property. Then she assesses all property annually
Board of Education-Levies direct taxes on property for school purposes, apprpriates moneys for certain prposes, prepares an estimate and budget for each fiscal year beginning July 1, employs and assigns school teachers
County Clerk- Makes record of proceedings of county court, Commissioner's Record, also record of proceedings performed by the clerk in vacation of the court, writes and countersigns all checks for orders approved by the county court
Magistrate-the legislature shall establish in each county a magistrate court or courts with the right of appeal as precribed by law. Such courts shall be courts of record if so prescribed by law
Family Court Judge- Shall be elected by the voters for a term prescribed by law not to exceed eight yers, unless sooner removed or retired. Family court judges must be admitted to practice law in this state for at least five years prior to their election
City
Mayor-Responsible for enforcement of city ordinances with the help of the Chief of Police and Police, responsible for peach and order in the city, presides over Countil Meetings
City Council- With the Mayor, the council shall draw up any ordinances for the government of the city. Council shall come into session whenever public welfare demands
City Clerk- Must see that ordinances are put on bulletin board, keep reports of council meetings, notify press as to officers elected and of items of public interest
